The question we will be asked, said Father Vazken, is this -- "What have you done with the gifts I gave you?"
The greatest gift given to me is my family. My parents, brother and aunt are gone, but their stories remain. Like beauty in the eye of the beholder, the stories people tell hold their truth. I want my son to know the giants he comes from, and in the end, I want to say that I remembered and that I tried to share.

The Brothers Shishmanian
Raphael Shishmanian, the artist, (on the left) was a cousin raised with my grandfather after losing his parents.
The two brothers pictured on the right (photo taken in 1911) were Jeremiah and Aleksan. They ended up in Beirut and New York, respectively.
